July 22, 1999 On the top left 300 second exposure of M57 (the Ring Nebula) with the no filter. The top right is a color composite made by combining the exposures made with different filters. The central white dwarf (16th magnitude) is visible at the center of the nebula. Compare this with 300 second exposures in (below left to right) I, R, and V filters. The R filter brings out the hydrogen emission, while V highlights ionized oxygen and neon, and I highlights dust.
June 9, 1999 Three 120 second exposures of globular cluster M5; one with each the V filter, R filer, and I filter. Since all the exposures are the same length, the differences in the brightness of the stars are due to a combination of the difference of the amount of energy the stars give off in the filter bandpass and the sensitivity of the CCD in that bandpass.
June 9, 1999 A 300 second exposure of the central region of globular cluster M10.
